a collaborative triptych

Left to right: Carol Newhouse by Ruth Mountaingrove, Self-portrait by Carol Newhouse, Carol Newhouse by Donna Pollach

Recently I keep returning to a series of images taken in 1975 by three different lesbian photographers. Three visions, three reflections, three photographers. Each of these images illuminates a different aspect of me as an artist.

By placing these photos in conversation, the collage reveals a deeper, truer reality. I see myself, but I see Donna Pollach and Ruth Mountaingrove, too. I see each of us as a witness and a participant, rendering one another visible, and becoming more than the sum of our parts.
